'No one can silence us' - The young girls of Project Legacy reflect on Women's History Month

This weekend, as we close Women's History Month, we have compiled a special edition newsletter with written words from the young girls of Project Legacy, who have reflected on the importance of this month and the profound history of the women who have gone before them.

Said poignantly and profoundly by one 15-year-old participant, "no one can silence us."

Read below to be uplifted by the reflections of these inspiring young women.

From Project Legacy social worker, Heidi Turner:

I have been working with the teen girls at Project Legacy since January. I met them over a year ago as an intern, and am grateful to now be a part of the Project Legacy staff, with the ability to continue investing in their lives.

We hold Circle groups twice every week. Circle is a place where girls provide support to their peers, lift each other up, and encourage one another. It is a safe space to gather as a community. As young women, they understand the value of leaning on each other, being an inspiration to others, and how important this is to their peers, and to the process of healing themselves, too.

At Project Legacy, whether you're staff, participant, alumni, or board member, there is one thing you know to be true: Here, we walk alongside each other.

As we close Women's History Month, we asked our girls to write words of reflection of all it means to be a young woman in the world, or words to inspire their peers.

We hope you're as inspired as we are by their compassion, hope and tenacity. They are the future we are so honored to be investing in day in and day out through the work of Project Legacy.

"Women's history month has helped me realize what women have done to get us where we are today. So often they aren't given credit for their inventions and achievements. Learning about women doing amazing things makes me feel like I can do whatever I set my mind to. Learning more about empowered women helped me combat my own internalized misogyny."
