'They give me hope for the future' - Special Message on International Women's Day

“All my life I have loved to surround myself with women. It’s just what feels best for me.

Starting with my mother and grandmother and continuing with my friends, I now have the pleasure of knowing all of the amazing women in Project Legacy.

Today, on International Women’s Day, I write and reflect on the power of the women in my life, and those in this beautiful community called Project Legacy.

It is my goal to be a woman who supports and builds up other women, so I look up to women in history who have stood up to their oppressors and have done something courageous in order to make a change.

I see so many similarities between the women in history and the women I know today.

Today, I look up to the women who are mothers, teachers, healers and adventurers. I look up to women who would prefer to take their own route instead of fit into the status quo of becoming a wife and a mother. I look up to women who are unapologetically themselves.

There is something divine about a woman. She is able to create life inside her and open the realm of the universe when she gives birth. She is able to withstand tremendous pain and still be soft, nurturing and loving.

I am grateful for the women I know, and I’m grateful for the woman I am.

One of my greatest joys in life, especially now after a year of isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is getting to work with the young girls of Project Legacy. I learn so much from them and they make me want to be the best woman I can be to give them someone to look up to, just like I have had through women in my life, and the women of history that went before us.

They give me hope for the future;
They make me smile;
They inspire me.

To all of the women in Project Legacy, and the fearless women who support our work day in and day out, thank you. You keep me grounded, you allow this community of strong women and young people supporting each other to exist.
